Unable to Connect: Project Professional 2k3 to Project Serve 2k3

I've searched through the newsgroup and can't see a solution to a problem
that has been mentioned by a few so i'll ask again and perhaps something has
changed since the other posts. I have done a new, clean install of Project
server 2k3. I have installed Project Pro 2k3 on a separate machine.

I have created a user that uses Window Integrated connections and works fine
when connecting to the server via a browser. I do not have basic or
anonymous connections turned on - only integrated windows logon.

However, I can't connect to the server via the Project 2k3 Server Account
Setup. It returns the error of:

Cannot Connect.

Microsoft Project was unable to establish a connection with the selected
Microsoft Project Server. This could be caused by a loss of network
connectivity, invalid username or password, lack of an enterprise global
template, problems with the Microsoft Proejct Server or database, or your
Microsoft Project Server may not have enterprise features enabled.

I would have thought that it would have prompted me for a userid and
password or dropped it from the environment to pass along, but I can't seem
to get it to connect at all. When Project 2k3 starts up, same problem as
well.

Is there something I should be doing?

Looks like I have found the solution. You must go into Internet Explorer and
register the URL for your project server into the Trusted Site list. After
doing this, all is good. I'm surprised that it wasn't mentioned anywhere but
it could have been listed in small print during one of the 'next' install
screens!

Found this out when I went into Project 2k3 offline and attempted to
collaborate with the project server. It returns a message indicating that
the URL is untrusted and perform the above said stuff.

cheers, j

I am not so sure that was the fix for your problem but I could be wrong.

If the server is not trusted, it will usually popup a message in Project Pro
asking if you want to make the site trusted.

The majority of the time I ran into the error you mentioned, it was because
the user didn't have Project Manager privileges.

To fix:
1. Login to PWA as a Project Administrator
2. Go to the Admin tab
3. Go to Manage Users and Groups
4. Select the user in question
5. Click Modify User
6. Add the Project Managers group
7. Click Save.
