unable to connect to database after migration

Hi,
i have migrated the database from server1 to server2 and used site
editor tool to change to server2 as the new database server.
i have verified that the username and passwords to access the database
is correct however project server says that it is not able to connect
to the database.
i tried switching the database server back to server1 and project
server still complains that it is not able to connect to the database.

pls help. thanks
