Unable to delete objects

Hi. I am unable to delete the objects in Visio after I have created them.
Even the 'Cut' option is disabled. Is there anything wrong with my program?
Can anyone help me? Thanks so much.

and if you look into the shape sheet what kind of protection is turned on?
