Unable to delete recurring calendar appointment

This may be an Exchange 2003 issue but I have searched everywhere for
an answer.

I am unable to delete what was a recurring appointment from my Outlook
calendar. I have tried to delete the appointment from several
different machines and clients including OL2003, OL2007 and OWA. We
have an Exchange 2003 server.

The strangest thing is when I double click the appointment to open and
edit it, it opens as an email message. I can address to another email
address but I can not send it, the send button is grayed out.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

If you display the calendar in a table format (recurrence is best for this) and find the reminder, highlight it (don't open) and press "delete" does it help?

I actually tried that solution and could not find the appointment. I
did however manage to get the appointment deleted in a very ugly work
around. I had to open another appointment in the series, update the
entire series, and then delete the appointment that did not belong on
the calendar. I call it an ugly work around because any of the other
appointments in the series which had been changed to something else
were reset to the "updated" settings.

The user created this appointment in 2001 or 2002 as a weekly
recurring appointment each weekday with no end date. Not something
that I would ever recommend to anyone, especially since it is "quiet
time" at her desk and is frequently changed. Perhaps a week or two at
a time, maybe even a month, but not 6 years at a time.

thank you for your response,
Justin
