Unable to determine MX host?

Have a 15" PowerBook running Office v.x under OS 10.3.9. Recently,
Entourage has developed two problems. The first, the database filling
up, is solvable, but one has me scratching my head. It is now
impossible to send any mail through one of the e-mail accounts. The
status bar hangs for hours, and if I cancel, I get the following error
message:

"Unable to determine MX host for '(e-mail address removed)'"

Error code is 5571

What is curious is that the MX host name it is searching for in no way
resembles the e-mail address, the POP address, or the SMTP address.
Mind you, the mail sent through this account is not a standard ISP.
The mail seems to be served by some sort of domain hosting service.

Is this an issue with the mail server, or did something become
corrupted in Entourage? I've already tried repairing permissions,
creating a duplicate account with the same POP/SMTP settings, to no
avail.
