Unable to Enter Text in Word Document

I have a PC on which text or numbers cannot be entered in
a new (or old) Word XP document using the keyboard but
numbers can be entered using the numeric keypad.

Text can be entered in Excel, WordPerfect and other
programs.

I've tried a different keyboard and the result is the same.

Any thoughts?

That is a symptom of a particular macro virus that's making the rounds. I
suggest you update your virus definitions and run a scan.
