Unable to get newsgroups on Outlook

J

Jack

When I try to retrieve newsgroups I keep getting a ! window saying
Outlook Express unable to retrieve a list of newsgroups available on
the server news.intergate.com - Details:480 authentication required -
Configuration: news.intergate.com - Server: news.intergate.com

This is a brand new computer with XP Home and Outlook 6.

On a former computer when MSN was my ISP I had virtually the same
exact problem. MSN tech support was completely clueless when I tried
to solve the problem through them. Their final solution was "duh, try
Google".

Why is it seemingly imposable for me to view and post to Usenet except
via Google?
Oh yeah, my webtv had a fantastic newsreader too. So why does Outlook
keep short changing me?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Contact your news service (Intergate?). They can tell you how to set up
Outlook Express to access their service. Outlook uses Outlook Express for
newsreading. From the error message, it is obvious that their service
requires authentication, as do most premium news services. They can guide
you through your setup in Outlook Express.
