unable to initialize the windows registry

Jure Velkavrh

I'm using AccessXP (from Office XP) and Access97 runtime
application(InstallShield setup). After Access97 Runtime
installation everything works fine, but after I run
AccessXP, I get an error when I try to start Access97
Runtime application ; "Microsoft Access was unable to
initialize the windows registry".

I've searched the knowledge base and newsgroups, but was
unable to find any answer.

Thank you.

Hi Jure -

We have seen similar issues in the past when users did not have adequate
permissions on registry keys shown below. Access 2000 will use the system
account
to dynamically register itself in the registry; and when Access 97 attempts
to
register itself, it uses the logged
on user account, which did not have write access to the registry. Giving
the Users
group Full Control to these keys resolved the issue in these cases:

Hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\office\8.0
and
HKey_Classes_Root

Hope that helps!

First, thanks for answer.
Second, I've tried, but still the same problem. Later I've
tried with permissions on all "root" keys, but still no
success.

If anyone has ANY idea, please repost.
Thanks

Jure
