Unable to open Visio 2002 files with Visio 2003 Professional

I received the following error when using Visio 2003 Professional to open a
file created in Visio 2002:

An error (1) ocurred during the action Open. Unexpected end of file.

What diagram type is it? Is it one that uses a Visio add-on?
Can the file still be opened in Visio 2002?
Are the Visio 2002 and 2003 different language variants?
