Unable to open Word documents

I can open all saved files and folders except word
documents. I cannot even open a new office document. Have
been trying to solve this for two weeks. HELP!!!

I have the same problem with all filetypes .doc, .xls,
etc..

The error from word is "File xxx can't be found". The
error from Excel is "Your virus scanner has detected a
problem with the file". Running the virus scan against
it, doesn't turn up anything ( i have Nortons, with the
latest updates).

Any help appreciated!

I can't open Word 2001 for Mac, either! I don't get an error message. But there is a large, gray question mark superimposed on the Word icon in the Dock. Anyone know how to fix this? I'm so FRUSTRATED with Word (having trouble for 2 weeks--each time I fix the problem, a new problem arises)
