Unable to record actual work on some tasks on web timesheet

I am using MS Project 2003 in an enterprise environment. I have
created and published a project to the project server.

When viewing the timesheet for a single project through Project Web,
some tasks permit entry of daily "actual work" and "remaining work".
Other tasks however permit entry of "remaining work" only.

Can someone please help identify why this timesheet/task inconsistency
exists?

Note: Not sure of the relevance, however I have baselined the plan and
applied a status date in the Project Information.

Thanks in advance.

Meditech:

I don't know of any circumstance that can cause the condition you describe.
Are all of these tasks from one project? If not, is one of the projects
using a different tracking method? Are you certain that you can't make any
entries in any other field, such as percent complete, for these tasks?

I think this could have happened in the same plan, if the tracking method was
originally on % complete and then changed part way through plan creation to
Tracking in Actual Work Done & Work Remaining.

If the tracking method is not locked down (PWA > Admin page > Customize
Project Web Access > Force PM to use...) then you can change method in
MSProject (Tools > Customize > Published Fields > use Hours of work done per
time period)

But do this at the start i.e. before assigning any resources to tasks, as
the method can differ across assignments!

Matt:

The point is that the poster said that some tasks permit "remaining work,"
only to be posted. That is not a behavior caused by mixed tracking methods
between plans or in the same plan. Have you ever seen that specific problem?

This is likely related to the Status Method used when publishing the
various projects. IN Project look at Tools | Customize | Published
fields. Check out the method listed there.

There are three:

% Complete and REmaining Work

Actual Work and Remaining Work

Actual Work per time period

It sounds like some of your projects were published with the second one
and some with the first one. This would account for some assignments
having both Actual Work and Remaining work editable while others have
only % Complete and Remaining Work.

Thankyou for your help. It is entirely possible the project was
published in this manner.

Any idea on how I can force all tasks to permit entry of Actual and
Remaing Work rather than % Complete?

The project "Customize Published Fields" setting is (and has been for
sometime) set to "Use the default method set on Project Server: This is
currently set to 'Specify hours of work done per day or per week".
Thanks again for everyone's help!

You can do a Collaborate | Publish | Republish Assignments.

This will set all the assignments in the project to use the current
setting you described.

Good Luck

By started are you implying those tasks with a start date >= to the
project's current date, &/or those tasks with actual work entered?

Just wanted to express my thanks for everyone's help resolving this
issue. All my timesheets are now collecting daily time!
