Unable to Save or open files not located in My Documents

In Office 2000, I have a couple of staff who when they attempt to do a Save
As, attach a document to an email, or open a file not in My Documents the
application locks up. If you hit the back button, there is no problem. If
you hit the Down arrow to find the file location, the app locks up. We have
tried uninstalling the program and install it at a different location and did
not fix the problem. Is there anything else that I can try.
