Unable to save Word, Excel, etc

I had to reformat my hard drive, and loaded Windows XP Home V5.1successfully.
After installing Office XP Pro, I am able to open new word/excel documents,
but get an error when trying to save them. The application automatically
closes. I tried installing Office XP Standard, and have the same results.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

The report contains the following details:

WORD:

EXCEL:

AppName: excel.exe AppVer: 10.0.6823.0 ModName: comctl32.dll
ModVer: 5.82.2900.2982 Offset: 00015637

I can save Wordpad docs with no problem.
