Unable to selec multiple contacts to email from a Shared Contacts

Hello - I work in a hospital that switched over from GroupWise to Outlook.
One problem we are having is that if User-A has shared a contact folder with
me, I am unable to select more than one contact to send a message to in that
folder. I can send a message to a single contact in the shared contact
folder by right-clicking on the contact and selecting Create -> New Message
to Contact. However, that same function does not work if I highlight multiple
contacts and right-click on them all. The Create option is not available
when multi-selecting contacts.
It does not appear that you can add a shared contact folder to your address
book because the option to "Show this folder as an email address book" does
not exist. for shared folders.

Are there any work-arounds to this? This same question is popping-up
repeatedly now, I appreciate any help! Thanks - Jason
