Unable to send emails after installation of KB905474

Early this week windows Update installed KB905474 on my Windows XP Media
computer. I have Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003 that I use for email.
Since the patch was installed I am unable to send emails (but I can recieve
emails). I have tried this with both an exchange server account (at work) and
with my home pop/smtp service.

Has anyone encountered a similar problem and have any suggestions on how to
resolve it?

The installation of the patch was the only change that was made to the
computer.

What happens when you try? Any error messages? Have you checked with your ISP to ensure that they have not changed anything on their end?

Actually - this may be related - since the problem with connecting my my
servers has started (when I installed the KB905474 update) - I am also having
problems shutting down my computer (Windows XP Multi-media Edition). It
fails to shutdown because it is unable to stop/shutdown/end
"ThorConnWndClass". A couple of times I even had to do a hard shutdown
because even clicking the button to exit without waiting failed to kill the
process. I see from browsing the web that this piece of code is related to
Microsoft?

Milly,

Working with my email service provider (Yahoo) I have been able to determine
that I am unable to connect to my smtp server (attempts to telnet directly to
the server fail). I have sent an email to my ISP asking them if they have
recently made any changes that might be blocking my ability to connect to the
smtp server (and I assume this is also what is blocking my ability to connect
to my employers exchange server). At this time it doesn't look like the
problem is related to Outlook but the problem did start when the patch
KB905474 was installed on my PC. I even turned off my firewall (for a short
period of time) to see if it was my firewall blocking my connecting to the
server but it still failed even with my firewall turned off. I guess I have
to wait now to hear back from my ISP and email service provider.

If you have any suggestions on what I could check on my PC that might be
blocking the connectioning I am open to ideas but at this point it doesn't
look like an outlook problem (although it could still be a Windows XP Media
Edition problem).

Thanks,
....Craig

Are you in Workgroup mode when trying to connect to Exchange? Reason I ask is that Media Center Edition of Windows XP cannot join domains and cannot access domain resources.
