Unable to send emails with Outlook

I am running windows 98 with Outlook Express. When I attempt to send emails,
I receive the two following error messages:

The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's email
address. The sender's email address was ...(my email)... Subject 'test',
Account: ...(my email)..., Server: 'smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com', Protocol:
SMTP, Server Response: '553 From: address not verified; see
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/manage/sendfrom-07.html',
Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number 0x800CCC78.

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: ...(my email)..., Server: 'smtp.sbcglogal.yahoo.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587 Secure (SSL): No Error Number: 0x800CCC0F.

I just started having problems yesterday, but Outlook would eventually send
the messages. However, today, it won't send any. Other computers in the
office are having no problems with Outlook.

You say "Outlook" in your subject line. You say "Outlook Express" in
the body of your post. So WHICH e-mail client are you really using?
This newsgroup discusses Outlook, not Outlook Express which is a
separate and totally different program.

It looks like you need to configure the e-mail account in your e-mail
client, whatever that is, to authenticate to the SMTP server to which
you are attempting to connect and send your outbound e-mails.

Did you even bother to read the web page at the URL that was given to
you in the error message? If you did, you would have seen what
"verification" means to SBC Yahoo and the steps you need to go through
to verify that a *human* is using that account. Until a *human*
responds to the confirmation e-mail, you can't use that freebie Yahoo
account.

That you "just started having problems" doesn't have to do anything
with changes on your end. Your e-mail provider can make changes to
their service whenever they please. Apparently Yahoo now requires
humans to verify that humans are using their freebie accounts. Not
all accounts may be affected at the same time. It could be several
months over which the accounts are checked that they were confirmed by
a human. Yahoo Mail also has an intermittent security web page during
login that might appear when using their webmail interface. After
logging in, you don't get to the normal web page for e-mail but
instead get an intervening security page that requires you to enter
the text shown in a grahical image. Until you do that, you can't get
to your account using the webmail interface. It doesn't happen very
often. I've seen it maybe twice a year (although in one week it
reoccured 4 times but I consider that an aberration due to some
maintenance they were performing at the time).

So go confirm your account so it is verified that a human is using it.

Thank you. I was having problems with the verification process for Yahoo, so
I was unsure what to do. However, after finally verifying my email with
Yahoo, everything appears to be working fine.

I notice that your error message includes the mail server name:
'smtp.sbcglobal.com'. You are aware that you should be using,
'smtp.att.yahoo.com'? With port 465 and SSL enabled?

Not that this would be a solution for the problem you initially stated; but
you say that you finally got that one sorted.

Until a *human* responds to the confirmation e-mail, you can't use that
freebie Yahoo account.

That is not a "freebie" Yahoo! account. That is an ISP mail account. Works
for any of the nine legacy SBC domains (used by at&t Yahoo! HSI customers).
I could use 'smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com' for my 'pacbell.net' accounts; or
'smtp.pacbell.yahoo.com'. It is more correct, now, to use
'smtp.att.yahoo.com:465' w/SSL.

None of those servers will work for freebie Yahoo! Mail accounts.
