Unable to send messages with attachments

I am fully able to send plain emails, but as soon as I attach any files, they
just sit in the outbox trying to send. I occasionally get the message: "lost
connection with the server; if this problem persists...."

Ideas?

Try disabling the outbound e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program.
If you cannot disable that function, uninstall the AV program and do a
*custom* install where you deselect to include the module that does
e-mail scanning.

In addition to what's been posted already, you could lengthen your server
timeout value, found on the Advanced tab of your account properties.

I have spent a lot of time online with my ISP tech support. I am able to send
messages less than about 900k, but not more than that. I am able to use the
webmail program to send larger attachments, so the issue is with outlook, not
with my ISP. I don't have email scanning, and the timeout value doesn't
affect the problem. The message I get is:

sending' reported error (0x800CC0F):'The connectino to the server was
interupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or
ISP.'

It's definitely an outlook error, not an ISP error.

I never claimed it was an ISP error. That error is typical of a server
timeout value set too low or a send/receive interval that's too short. What
server timeout value and send/receive interval do you have?

Also, some strange behaviors:

Everything runs ok with attachments <1MB. When I send larger ones, one at a
time, the send/receive message at the bottom right reads "sending 1 of 1"
then goes immediately to "sending 3 of 3" and then hangs up, and gives the
message.

Which value is that? If that's the server timeout value, set it to five and
see what happens. If it's the send/receive interval, set it to ten.

Enable diagnostic logging and see what's happening in the communications
between Outlook and the server.

Never include real addresses when posting to a newsgroup. You sould have
edited the log to mask them.

This indicates to me that your send/receive interval is too small and
Outlook never gets a chance to finish the send before a new send is started.
I asked you before what it was and you never posted the answer. Try
disabling your automatic send/receive and perform one manually. See if the
message goes through. As VanguardLH already said, make sure you are NOT
scanning outgoing messages with an antivirus scanner.

posting thing for this long...

Anyway. I disabled auto-send/receive, and also changed the server time out
to 10 minutes.

No change in the behavior. Still does exactly the same thing.

Alas, then, I'm just about out of ideas. The only other thing I'd suggest
is to create a new mail profile, if you haven't already tried it. See this:

I've tried the profile thing as well, no luck. There's definitely something
