Unable to send or receive Excel attachments

Here's hoping you IT experts have an answer to this one, as none of the
local experts can seem to figure it out. Recently, I bought a new Dell
running XP Pro and Office Pro 2003. About the same time I put this machine
on line, I am no longer able to receive an Excel spreadsheet as an
attachment from a specific person. Others in our group, however, can
receive it. I can no longer forward it either. It's as if the email never
happened. If I cut and paste the contents of the spreadsheet into a new
worksheet, the problem goes away. I've turned off all spam filters. I've
tried disabling autoprotect in NIS and have had my local ISP shut off
filtering also. I've also tried having it sent to my hotmail account. The
only hint that something is irregular, is when I check the properties of
this person's spreadsheet, it has "trial user" listed as author. Could it
be that something has timed out and won't allow even an earlier created
attachment to be sent? Or, is it possible that they are using some kind of
bootleg software and since mine is the latest and greatest that it is able
to see this?
