unable to set task as 100% complete

% work complete is 100% but % complete is less than 100%....so the indicator
field does not show the completed check.
- shouldn't % complete go to 100% if % work complete is 100%?
- I can edit the task and make % complete 100%. publish all...and the task
is 100% complete and 100% work complete. great
- if I edit a different task in such a way that I get the "out of sync"
message...and the task and field I updated reverts to the value of the
protected actual.....the task that I changed earlier to 100% complete reverts
back to less than 100% complete. Why??
- how can I make a task 100% complete when the % work complete is 100%?

MS Project Server 2003
- the Tracking Settings is "hours of work done per day or week"
- the Lock Down Defaults is "force project managers to..."
- managed periods is enabled

MS Project 2003
- task type is fixed duration

I believe your problem is the Fixed Duration setting on the task in
question. If the resource(s) assigned to the task finish the task in less
Duration than originally planned, the % Work Complete will appear as 100%
but the % Complete (which is really % of Duration Complete) will appear as
less than 100%. Try setting the Task Type for this task to Fixed Units, and
I believe Microsoft Project will reset the % Complete to 100% for you, and
will not trouble you with the "out of synch" error. Let us know if this
helps.

Thanks Dale. I understand what you're saying...and it does work.

If a task is 100% Work Complete the task is complete....even though the
Indicator field does not have a check mark, the Actual Finish field is NA,
and the % Complete may be < 100%. Many indicators I have (custom fields) have
been interrogating the % Complete field...I'll have to make some adjustments
with my indicators and with the fields I look at in my new schedules.

It sounds like your custom field formulas need to access the % Work Complete
field rather than the % Complete field. Other than that, I would simply
question why you are using Fixed Duration tasks in your project. If you are
using this as the default Task Type for all tasks, then why? This
particular Task Type sets a fixed window for each task, when in reality, the
window is not fixed as your original question indicates. Just a thought.
Hope this helps.
