I am using FP2003 and need to create a secure subsite. I was told by
Microsoft to do it thourgh the Server meny under Tools but the Server submenu
is disabled. What is going on that I can't use the menu?

You must be logged on to the live site, and the host must allow you to set permissions.

You need to open the live site in FrontPage.
With no webs open click File > Open site and enter www.sitename.com
Enter the username and password.

You are correct in a sense that the live site is opened when you publish, but when you publish it is
considered the "remote site."

When you open it as described above you "should" then have access to server settings if allowed by
your host, because FrontPage then considers it the "local site."

I never knew you could modify the web site directly!! I thought you had to
have a copy on your hard drive in order to make changes Thanks!!!

Yes, you can "edit live." However, it is a good idea to edit the local web and then publish,
because that way you always have a back up in case of a server failure.

Also you can publish from the server back to your computer, when working with a web on a server with
extensions.
