Unable to view messages in .PST

I have a pst that is over 360Mb in size, however I can only see one message that is very small. It was fine yesterday, there were thirty sub-folders and hundreds of emails, today 1 email, and nothing but the basic folders. I am puzzled as to why the pst is so large, yet only one small email is visible. Also strange the PST icon is wrong normally it is the Multi color puzzle piece from microsoft now it is the generic, IdontknowhatIam.icon. I am using XP Office. Help

please run scanpst.exe to look if there are some errors in your pst file!
BTW have you changed anything?

Ran scanpst and it told me nothing was wrong, it saw 11 folders and 1file.
As we are on a corporate network, I can only say that I didn't change anything, there are many offices with the authority to push service packs..etc thatso not tell us whenthey do it!
