Unable to view .xsd Schema Files

I have just installed an upgrade of Access 2003 with a complete installation.
I want to learn how to use XML and Sharepoint. I am using the samples from
Microsoft Office Access 2003 (Microsoft Press) FANTASTIC BOOK but when I try
to import or export .xsd Schema files Access not recognise them (unknown file
type). My windows xp professional does not recognise the files either. I have
..net 1.1 and 2.00 framework installed.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
