Is there a way to unblock .exe from being transfered? I have exe's that I
need on both my computers.

Check the Workspace properties (folder info tab). There's a provision for
changing file folder properties that includes managing the file extensions.
Check Groove 2007 User guide (PDF version page 68) for more details.

Jesse,

Did you ever figure out how to enable the exe extensions? I'm having a
similar problem. I need to sync my Outlook .pst files between three computers
and .pst files are excluded as well.

Hi,

Groove 2007 user accounts that are not centrally manged can change
settings in the prefernces (options/preferences/security)

If grayed out, that means that your account is centrally managed within
a Groove domain and that security policies do not allow these changes.
Only the person(s) managing your Groove domain can change these settings
for you from his admin console.

Note that this is true for Groove 2007 only. (GVO 3.1 does not have
this possibility).

Best regards,
Jan

Hello Michael,
It depends on whether your account and device are managed or not (i.e. if
your identity was created for you by a managment domain, e.g. a corporate
groove manager). If it is, then the blocked files list is controlled by a
security policy managed by the domain. If you created the identity yourself,
you can changed the blocked files list in Options/Preferences/Security.

check theGareth,

Thanks for your reply.
If you created the identity yourself, you can changed the blocked files list in Options/Preferences/Security.

I created the identity myself. Going to Options/Preferences/Security for the
Outllok workspace that I am trying to get to work allows me to view the types
of files that are restricted (i.e., blocked) but not to edit them. The only
option is to uncheck the "Block Restricted File Types" check box, thus not
blocking any file type (certainly not what I would prefer).

However, if I do this and then then double click on that workspace from
within the Launchbar to make it Active it opens an explorer type window for
my Grove Folder for the Outlook files. If I then select "Show properties for
the Outlook Data files " it opens a My Outlook Workspace Window. Clicking on
the "Folder Info" tab shows that there are now no file types being blocked
but there are still a number of file types that it says that are being
excluded from syncronization.

It seems that the .pst files are set by default to be both blocked and
excluded from synchronization. Unchecking the "Block Restricted File Types"
check box only affects the blocked file types but not the excluded types. It
appears that I have to get rid of the restriction in both places before I can
sync .pst files.

Ideally, I would much rather just allow this type of file without unblocking
all the other blocked types as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Michael

It isn't too surprising that .pst files won't synchronize regardless of the
setting. The same behavior applies with redirected MyDocuments folders and
included .mdb database files. This is to avoid errors in which data is being
written to the database while it is in the process of synchronizing.

I agree that it would be nice to have a granular method to allow otherwise
blocked file types without removing all security.

Best of luck

Michael,
Take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938810
This talks about blocked files in Microsoft Office. The pop-up help for the
"Block restricted file types" checkbox implies that Groove implements the
files that Office blocks. Not too surprising I guess.

Gareth,

Thanks for your reply. I am always leery of messing directly with the
registry but the KB link that you gave has at least given me some food for
thought..

Gareth,

Read the article you mentioned and looked at the registry but it seems that
Office 2007 must handle file types and security differently than Office 2003.
At least I could not find equivalent locations in the registry for Office
2007 programs.

I noted in Word 2007 under Word Options/Trust Center/Trust Center Settings,
that I can enable certian directories contaning certain files and thus tell
the program that these are trusted files and tried this to see if if worked
across Office 2007 applications and then openned Excel 2007 to see if this
same folder was now a trusted location there as well but it wasn't. It
appears that trusted locations, whatever they do are on an application by
application level within Office 2007.

I also used windows exporer to look at the various application folders for
Office 2007 and found that only certain applications had security subfolders
(Groove wasn't one of them) and in the security folder it had listed the
filepaths to the directories that have been set as trusted but no listings of
trusted, blocked or excluded filetypes.

All of this is to say that I still have no idea where Groove is getting its
list of blocked and excluded files.

Anyway, thanks again for the suggestion.
