uncheck style in TOC, Word crashes, WINWORD.exe has generated errors

Hi

I hope that someone can help.

When I uncheck one of my styles in the Table of Contents dialog box, and run the Table of Contents generator, Word crashes.

In the Index and Tables dialog box, on the TOC tab, there are styles checked to be included in the TOC. There are currently 21 styles checked, most of which are my own custom styles. At one time, as I was developing a new template, I checked many styles. Now I want to uncheck most of them. Particularly I want to uncheck a style named “L2 *Notboldâ€, which is not a header and should not be in the TOC. If I uncheck this style, and click Run, Word crashes with this error:

WINWORD.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program

An error log is being created

Questions:

How can I run the TOC and not have this style included and not have Word crash

Where does Word keep track of what styles are included in the TOC

If I uncheck other styles, the TOC does run, and Word doesn’t crash, but the next time I open the Index and Tables dialog Box, all 21 styles are checked again. How can I change my selection of styles permanently for this document? (or any others?

In the template (ITinternal.dot) that is attached to my document, there are only 6 styles checked. These are the styles that I would like checked in my document (Jiga.doc). Why does my document have a different set of styles checked?

Is there an error log? If so, where would I find it

Thank you

Susa

Sorry about the multi-post! I thought that I was in a completely different forum, posted by a completely different entity with a different audience, as I got to it through a different web page and it looked totally different!

I'll check the docmanagement group

Thanks!
