Underline spaces

In a table, how do you underline spaces?

In a table or elsewhere, the only way to underline *trailing* spaces is to
either make the last one a nonbreaking space (Ctrl+Shift+Spacebar) or enable
the appropriate Compatibility Option (Tools | Options | Compatibility: "Draw
underline on trailing spaces.").
