Understanding Shapesheet

C

Craig

Hi,
I notice that many of the answers to questions reference the Shapesheet.

I am new to Visio. It seems that to become a good intermediate user of
visio, one should understand at least the basics of the shapesheet and how to
manipulate the variables within it.

What is the best way to learn shapesheet basics? Does anyone know of a good
website or other resource? I didn't see anything that fit the bill in Visio
help.
Thanks,
Craig

Try to follow the answers on shapesheets in this discussion.
Be sure to find the functions as they are not all the manual "Developing
Visio Solutions" and they are not the same as in VBA.
google for "strsame visio"

Hi Craig,

Tip number one would be: Select a very simple shape like a rectangle or a
circle, then choose: Window > Show ShapeSheet. Mess around with the formulas
and see if anything starts to make sense. The ShapeSheet operates very much
like Excel, but not 100%.

My web-site, Visio Guy has lots of posts regarding the ShapeSheet - you can
look under the category Development > ShapeSheet
(http://www.visguy.com/category/development/shapesheet/)

One of the articles explains quite a few basic concepts, and might be a good
place to start:

It took a while before I realized that the basic information has been written
in the SDK for Office Visio 2002.
