Unexpected files being opened

I'm using Office2003. Every time I click "Microsoft
Excel", there will be two unexpected files opened. I
broke links for some Excel files before because they kept
asking for update every time I open them, and then this
happened. Can anybody help me out with this? Thank you
very much.

Hi ED,

You can try this ;-
either reinstate the shortcut from the desktop or find a file and associate
it to Excel by pressing shift and then open with - select Excel and then
check the box that says always use this program!

Hey John, thanks very much for your help. ED sounds odd
to a well-functioned man though :)

I bet I didn't state my problem clearly. Whenever either
I open a Excel file or click Excel shortcut for first
time (no Excel program is running), two unexpected Excel
files come as well (always those two). The Excel files
are linked correctly to Excel program.

Excel will try to open any files it finds in either the XLSTART folder or
"Alternate startup file location" or "at startup, open files in". This could
be the source of your problem.

First thing I would try is to start Excel in Safe Mode so you bypass any
XLSTART folder or "Alternate startup file location" if you have one entered.

Enter this at Start>Run(your path may differ) to start in Safe Mode

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\excel.exe" /s

Your path may differ.

Then I would check the Tools>Options>General and delete any path in "Alternate
startup file location".

I would move any files from the Office\XLSTART folder that aren't
Personal.xls, Book.xlt or Sheet.xlt.
