Ungrouping Drawing Objects

A developer created a Word document that contains many
text boxes aligned in columns. There are three across the
page and six or so down the page. Once she had them
aligned to her liking, she grouped them.

Well, now she can't ungroup them. The Ungroup selection on
the Draw toolbar is grayed out.

We've tried everything we can think of, but the Ungroup
feature on every menu we access is unavailable. Any
suggestions? Thank you very much.

I had this happen to me in Word 2002 one day. I created several
floating text boxes and grouped them. Then I changed the layout of the
grouped text boxes to in-line-with-text, after which I couldn't ungroup
them. So try changing the layout of the grouped object to
float-over-text (Word 97) or not in-line-with-text (Word 2002-03) and
see if you can ungroup after that. Fair warning, when you ungroup, some
of the individual objects may reposition themselves unexpectedly.
