Uninstall 2000 and then Upgrade to 2003 - still eligible?

C

Charles E Powell

Running Office 2000 Professional on Windows XP. Just purchased UPGRADE to
Office 2003 Professional.

I don't care to save settings or customizations in the products, willing to
learn and use the defaults and new settings from Microsoft. I want to get rid
of obsolete code, obsolete templates, methods, etc. But don't want to lose
eligibility for the upgrade.

If I uninstall Office 2000 Pro and other products to be replaced by Office
2003 Pro, will the upgrade still work -- that is will the upgrade be
eligible? Does it get the eligibility from the registry entries that remain
after the add/remove programs uninstall?

Besides settings, what else would I lose? (Outlook views, Office Toolbar)

(Would Toolbar remain if install 2003 over 2000?)

Hi Charles,

As long as you have the Office 2000 CDs available when
installing the Office 2003 upgrade you'll be able to
meet the 'qualifying product' check. Be sure to check
Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel
before installing Office 2003 to see if all of the
2000 series apps have been removed to meet the criteria
in your scenario.

If you want to not migrate any existing settings and
have backed up all of your documents and files you
may want to use the cleanup utility to remove the
Office 2000 registry entries then restart the PC
prior to installing Office 2003.
