Uninstall all but Outlook from Office XP Professional

I've installed Office XP Professional on a friends computer and the doesn't
like it. I'd like to keep Outlook on there and install the other programs.
Can this be done? If it can't be done and I have to uninstall all programs
including Outlook, how do I save all the email messages that have already
populated Outlook from his server?

Hi Michele,

You can select the MS Office XP Professional Edition choice from Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel and change it to
have all apps except Outlook switched to 'Not Available' state and that should leave only Outlook.

Note that that still uses up a full install license for Office XP Professional edition, and as the Office suite uses a number of
shared files, there won't necessarily be much of a space savings as far as disk space by installing only one of the apps from the
package.

If you're looking to move the saved emails to another program you may want to post in the Outlook newsgroup or in the discussion
group for the new email program for additional assistance.

I went to the control panel, add/remove programs, clicked office xp
professional, and remove. I am asked "are you sure you want to remove office
xp professional?" I am afraid if I say yes everything will be gone. If I
choose change instead of remove, I can choose a program to update. I don't
see anywhere that I can choose "not available". Can you talk me through
this. I have already installed all of the programs.

Hi Michele,

Rather than remove you would choose the Add/Remove Features choice from the program. If you're not getting that choice then you can
run Setup from the Office XP CD and it will bring up the dialog that lets you choose repair, remove or change features.

From the Change Features area you'll get to a tree of features with 'sugar cube' like blocks. You can select a block and choose the
way you want the feature handled.
