That is a risky way of going about it, on top of that you may find your
going to have troubles installing office updates down the road. Follow this
article and your problem should be resolved
Remember back up any registry keys prios to deletion!!!!!!!!
Note as well that you may not find all the leys listed below on your system
1. Quit all running programs.
2. Click Start menu-> Run, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) in
the
Open box and press Enter.
3. Back up and Delete the following registry keys if they exist:
(Note: '#' represents any number {0-9, A-F})

4. Quit the Registry Editor.
5. Delete or rename the following folders:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Office9
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Office10
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE11
C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Microsoft\Office
If the issue is with Office Updates, also remove the following:
C:\Program Files\OfficeUpdates
C:\Program Files\OfficeUpdates11
6. To remove MAPI, search for and rename the following files/folders:
mapi*.dll (should not rename mapistub.dll)
mapi*.exe
pstprx32.dll
mspst32.dll
In Office 2003, MAPI components are installed to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Msmapi
In Office 2002, MAPI components are installed to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi
7. Delete contents of %temp%
