uninstalling outlook express Identity Issues in Outlook XP

A

Airen

Everytime I load Outlook XP I get a dialoge that tells me I have no
Identity. Main Identity is in the listbox below it, and it asks me for a
passowrd. I have never set any kind of password like this, so I just click
logout, it confirms my response then I use Outlook as always, except the
password I have on my PST file is never prompted. This all started after I
uninstalled Outlook Express. My question is if anyone has had a problem like
this before, and how it was resolved?

You need to re-install Outlook Express. I don't know if that will solve your
problem but I *do* know that Outlook will not work correctly unless Outlook
Express is installed on your machine, as Outlook uses some of Outlook
Express' files.

If you are using Windows XP you *CANNOT* uninstall OE. What OS are you
using, and what did you actually do?

I am using Windows XP Home. I uninstaled Outlook Express from the Add/Remove
Windows componets in the control panel. I will reinstall it later today and
see if that solves the problem. I know that Outlook does not use Identities
though, that is a Outlook Express feature, so I don't know what the problem
is. I've also removed all Outlook Express regristrey keys to try and solve
the problem and still no solution.

Did you not read the dialog box? All that does is to remove the *ICONS*
from your program groups - it does NOT uninstall OE! So you must have
done something else. What do you mean when you say this happens when you
"load" Outlook? Do you mean when you try to open it, or when you try to
install it?

Thank you for all your help!

Outlook is already installed, it's been installed for over a year. Whenever
I open the program I get the identy log on box. I opened outlook express,
and recieved the same log on box, since i don't remember a password for the
Main Identity, I created a new one and I no longer have a problem with
Outlook asking for an Identity Password. Outlook still does not ask me for
my .PST password though. And I have one set. Go figure? I guess it's time
to reinstall.

Did you check the box "Save in passwords list" when setting the
password? If you have, then that's why you are not prompted for the
password.

Went back and verified that the password was saved. So everything is working
like it should now. Thankyou for your help. I am not sure how the password
got saved. All the same I do appreciate everyones help.
