Unique count on already filtered data

I know you can use the filters to get a unique count however, I am using the
filter options against months of the year to see how many open tickets there
were for each month, meaning I cannot get a unique customer count on that
filtered result (or so I think ), but I only need to count the unique number
of customers for the entire year.

an example would be if ACME, ABC, XYZ corps call in each with 4 tickets each
for the entire year, using the filter I can get a count showing 12 tickets,
but it also shows 12 customers which is fine but I would like to get a unique
customer count (numeric) to show in a cell, so as I go through the months I
can see in January I had 12 tickets (using the count options) and 3 unique
customers (need help on this function)

so when I get to March and filter (jan- march) I will see that from Jan -
March I had 120 tickets but only 12 unique customers

Thanks in advance
