Unique Values in Pivot Table

Hi Everybody,
I have a Pivot table in excel 2000 when I use the "count"
option it keeps giving me the total records of the list
it regardless if some of them are the same and I need to
count the unique values.
Does anybody know how to count unique text values in a
pivot table in excel 2000?
I appreciate your help...I am going crazy with this.
