Units to 0% Changes Duration to 0

I thought that fixed duration meant that duration will not change if units or
work numbers are changed.

I have tasks that are fixed duration, not effort-driven. I have already
assigned labor resources and their units (% available to work on this task).
If I take an assigned resource's units to 0%, the duration for some of the
tasks changes to 0.

Any ideas? Thanks!

If you are using Project Server 2007, then this is the new default behavior
of the software. Sorry.

No, sorry I forgot to mention, we are using Project Server 2003.

The user thinks the duration is changing between the time he closes the file
and reopens it... I think it is the units but it doesn't happen on every task
and I can't see the difference.
