Unknown Error when sending emails

I get the following error message when I send e-mails.
Initially it won't leave the outbox; however, if I reopen
it (in the outbox) and resend it...then it get the
message below and then it sends the email....any thoughts?

Task 'pop3.knology.net - Sending' reported error
(0x80040109) : 'Unknown Error 0x80040109'
