Unknown marks

Hope I can explain this. For some reason on my Word XP documents that are
based on the normal template I have four L shaped marks. One in each corner.
They look like the marks that you see when you are in page set up, lay-out,
borders. The half square marks that are in each corner showing were the
borders will be. They are gray in color. I tried renaming the normal
template and letting word recreate a new template but they were still there.
Any suggestions. I am at a loss on this one.

They are page layout marks associated with Asian languages and are similar
to crop marks. You need to disable support for Asian languages before they
will go away. If you need Asian language support you'll have to put up with
them.
(Windows > Start > Programs > Microsoft Office > Office Tools > Microsoft
Office language support)
