I currently have around 30 project plans that l am trying
to un-link from the network so that l can have one
unlinked consolidated plan. However every time l unlink
all projects and then try and save the plan it crashes
with a MS Project message and it the restarts MSp Project
2002 Can anybody help.

Gavin,
When you say "unlink" it implies you have a dynamically consolidated
master file (i.e. master with inserted subprojects) but then you talk
about unlinking from the network. What exactly is your file structure?

To answer your basic question, I don't know why Project is crashing but
why not rebuild a statically consolidated master from the 30
subprojects. To do that first open a new blank project and then go to
Insert/Project. Select all 30 subprojects and before hitting "Insert",
uncheck the "Link to project" box at the bottom of the Insert Project
window.

Hope this helps.

I'm having the same problem as Gavin.
I inserted the subproject and unchecked the "Link to project" box
before hitting insert. When I save the project, that's when MS project
crashes. Has there been any updates to this situation?

micheley,
I never received a reply from Gavin on my suggestions, so I don't know
if his problem was solved or not. Nonetheless, in your case do you have
all the latest updates for Project 2002? You can check by going to:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/results.aspx?lc=en-us&Scope=DC&Query=pr
oject+2002
I don't have 2002 myself so I can't tell you if any of the updates is
relevant to the problem you are seeing, but having the latest updates is
the best starting point for additional troubleshooting.

Assuming you have the latest updates installed and Project still crashes
when you attempt to build and save a static master, then I suspect the
file is corrupt. I suggest going to the MVP website at:
http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm
and taking a look at FAQ 43 - File Bloat? - Might be corruption.

Another thing you can try is to open Project and go to Help/Detect and
Repair.

Try the above suggestions and let us know how you fare.

John,

I ran the Microsoft Office Updates and now I'm able to insert a
project, unlink it, and save it. Thank you for your help! ('happy
face' - I don't know how to make that smiley face appear here)

I have another question...

I’m trying to post a new question and I’m getting an “Internal Server
Error” message. All I entered was the Subject and Message lines, and
clicked on Submit New Thread. I left everything else as is. I get the
same error message when I clicked on Preview Post.

I tried to send an email to (e-mail address removed) to report this but the
email was undeliverable.
Please help me.

micheley,
I'm glad the update solved your problem. You're happy, I'm happy.

I'm not sure I can help you much with a new post. My knowledge in that
area is limited (I'm a Mac user and use a Mac based newsreader directly
- no web page involved). You can post through Google
(microsoft.public.project) although the post upload time is horrendous
(several hours). There has also been some other posts in this newsgroup
regarding posting of messages so you could do a Google search and see
what advice was offered.
