Unprotecting a document when all is grayed out

I am unable to type anything in any saved or new documants. Evertime i try I
get a message at the bottom of the screen that says, "this command is not
available because the document is locked for edit." I have tried going into
my tools, in there it says "protect document" not "unprotect" and it too is
grayed out. Please someone out there know what is wrong and how to fix
it...this is driving me insane!!!

It sounds as if either this is a trial version that has expired or you have
not activated Word (Help | Activate Product).
