Unreadable files

I have Office 2003. I rarely use some filesin excel and word. When I went to
open oneit was jibblerish, tells me they are delimited but I go through the
steps and nothing changes. I then checked on some of the other files and some
were the same while the ones I use more frequently were fine. All the files
that are messed up were last modified on Aug 12 at 10pm. Tried to restore my
computer back before that date but says nothing has been changed. I've been
using a computer for years but know nothing technical about them. How do I
get the files to a readable text?

Try opening them with Notepad instead. It is of course possible that
something was done to the files in question and you will need to resort
to the backup copy.

Tried it with the same results. Something must have happened because all the
bad files were modified on the same date and time.

A restore has no impact on data files.
Maybe you need to do some deep scanning for Virus & malaware
