Either run detect and repair from FrontPage Help, or let it perform the
install procedure.

Something may have been changed that over-wrote something that FP uses. For
example: if you had FP 2002, and then installed Office 2003, the shared
office components would over-write the ones FP 2002 use. Most likely it's a
versioning issue with the shared components as they try to update for the
other applications that use them.

Hope this helps,

Once you launch the Remove dialog, you will be given the option to add or remove individual
applications or components.

so i did a system restore, and now Office is back, but it
still tries to install frontpage.

Sorry, however that was most likely the best solution, since it will allow you to re-install using
the custom install option and un-select all FP options.

Then install it, you really don't have to use it, then go to Add/Remove, select Office XP w/FP, then
select Change, then Add or Remove Features, then select Microsoft FrontPage for Windows, etc. then
click the down arrow, and select Not Available, then click Update Now.

Do a search for msicuu2.exe, which is a super-duper super-secret (so it
seems) Microsoft tool for cleaning up & getting rid of fouled installations.
I had a problem where Outlook 2003 kept asking for an Office 2000 disk every
time it first tried to read a new email. Pulled out a lot of hair until I
found that utility, which uninstalled stuff that was somehow there, but
wasn't supposed to be.

That tool has been replaced by the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility available at
