unwanted page break

I am using Word 2000. I have an unwanted page break in the
document I am working on. I have attempted to use the
directions in the Help menu..."Switch to normal
view,Select the manual page break and delete" When I bring
the pointer to the break line that is causing the problem
it will not select it. It will select the line of text
above or below it but not the break line. I have tried
removing and replacing Office but that did not help. Does
any one have a solution?

Are you sure the break is caused by a manual page break? Could it be a 'page
break before' or 'keep with next' setting on a paragraph that is causing
your unwanted break?

However, sometimes breaks are difficult to select. One trick is to place
cursor immediately before, then hold down shift and press the right arrow
key so that the selection extends over the break 'character'.

I have tried all the fixes recommended in Margaret Aldis'
response without any result. I have noticed two things:
The only line that has the "Page Break" legend on it is at
the first page break location and it's Ok.Otherpage break
lines do not have the legend and are in the correct
location except for the on between the last page and the
page preceeding it. I have noted that all the header
spaces appear to be normal exceptthe one for the final
page which is about 3 inches deep, it covers the top of
the page by that much. Is there a way to shrink the header
to a normal size. I think if that couldbe done the
unwanted page break would be fixed. Is there a way to drag
or otherwise reduce the size of the header space?

Page breaks that aren't labeled are "soft" page breaks inserted by Word.
Normally these will occur only when the page is full. If a page is ending
short, check the first paragraph on the next page. It will almost certainly
be formatted as some combination of "Page break before," "Keep with next,"
and "Keep lines together." Possibly there are several paragraphs with this
formatting. As for the last page, most likely the vertical alignment (Layout
tab of Page Setup) is set to Center instead of Top.

A Big Thank You to Suzanne S.Barnhill. Your direction
about checking the vertical alignment on the last page
fixed the problem.
