Unwanted Text Box Duplication

Everytime I try to install a text box into my document, it
appears with the text from another text box. When I select
that text, it is highlighted in both areas at the same
time. How do I break this behavior so I can install
a "clean" new box? When I delete the text in the new box,
it disappears in the old box as well.

Possibly this may be simple. Open a new Text Box, delete the text in it,
then right-click on the Text Box and select Set AutoShape Default. Now close
that document, open a new blank and try that again. Is the Text Box now
empty? If it is, then to make this permanent, you need to open normal.dot,
repeat the steps above and then delete all the contents of the normal.dot,
close Word and answer YES when prompted to save changes.
