unwated Office update proret.msi prompt- how to remove or solve?

T

theout

I have this problem where everytime I open Word or another Office XP
program, I get prompted to update Office with "proret.msi". Is it
possible to prevent this prompt from showing up?? I don't want to
update anything and I never chose to update Office.

This started recently when I updated Internet Explorer to show more
language characters specifically Chinese. I had to use my XP CD and it
was done successfully. However since then the above-mentioned problem
keeps happening when I open XP. Even worse is that when I start
Windows, I get that prompt as well. I'm assuming that when I updated
IE, something was affected in Word. Maybe changes were made. I don't
have the Office CD because it was preinstalled.

Please help if possible. Thanks.

Basically, the MS Installer has noted what it thinks is a problem with MS Office. It checks a variety of installed products when
updating. The language settings in Office are related, but you may want to try a detect and repair from the MS Office choice in
Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel (also check for other MS Office family products there) and be sure you have your
CD(s) available.

It is also possible that when you installed something that it requires an update to Office to be compatible.
