UPDATE 12.0.1 will not install

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

When I select the volume to install my update which is the only volume on my MBP I get the following:

"You cannot install Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.0.1 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume."

This was an upgrade that I installed several weeks ago, I'm currently run ver 12.0.0. I have tried using the Auto Update and well and downloading the image file. Any help will be appreciated.

I have seen this and I've heard of other people with the same problem.

I don't usually recommend these types of approaches, but if you have
Pacifist, you could use it to force-install the update,

Yours is a little different version of a problematic install of 12.0.1, but
I advise seeing this article for some tips.
