Update 12.1.7 Install Failure

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have been trying to install update 12.1.7 for over a year now, and it will still not work. I am running Office 2008 that I installed from a disc given to me by the University I attend, and I am currently running version 12.1.1. Microsoft Autoupdate keeps reminding me to install 12.1.7, but when I run the installer after downloading the package, the installer claims that Office is not on my system, which is obviously not true. Anybody know why this would happen?

I'm sure it may "seem" like a year, but the 12.1.7 update was just released

over the hurdle. Make sure to follow the instructions to the letter:
