Update denied

My wife and I have several Macs networked. Her primary computer is MacPro
w/ OS X.5.3/2.16GHz intel duo core. She is running Office 2004 w/ Entourage
11.4.0. I have an IMAC with OS X.5.3 and the same version of Office. We
both use MS AutoUpdate, which checks weekly for updates. Yesterday, we were
both notified that it¹s time to update. Mine updated and installed. Hers
repeatedly displayed a message saying either she was not connected to the
network or the Office server was down, to try again later. She tried it many
times, re booted, tried it with a different login identity, tried it with
Airport and Ethernet connection and got same message. We are both on the
same network. She had the same experience today.
Aren¹t our lives interesting?
Any explanation?

I don't have an explanation, but I have a solution. I solved the problem on
my wife's iBook G4 by downloading the latest updater from MS's web site
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx?pid=Mactopia_Office2004&fid=B6D
69814-0995-490D-909A-5EC6AE6F64F0#viewer>
and running it standalone.
