update distribution list won't work anymore

Whenever an email address changes, I go into my distribution list and click
"update" and the address is updated. Since I reformatted HDD and imported
back up file, the "update" no longer works. Has anyone experienced this, and
how do I resolve it?

Everyone.
The Update Now button does not work unless the DL and its members are in the
original Contact Folder in which they were first created.
In fact, DL's do not even survive export/import, so that is never a good
choice for transferring Outlook data.
