Update enterprise project from a .mpp

Is there a way to update an enterprise project form a .mpp file? I intially
created an enterprise project from the .mpp file, but then began making
changes to the .mpp file. Now, when I access the enterprise project it,
obviously, does not include the new changes.

How do I get those changes from the .mpp file into the enterprise project -
hopefully without having to re-type it all?

Mervin,

Unfortunately you'd need to decide on one version of the plan or the other, i.e. the server version or the local file version. You can't "merge" changes from a local file to the server, unless you work in offline mode - which is the recommended method for taking a project plan offline so you can work with it locally.

I detailed the steps to do offline mode in a post last week sometime. If you do a search for "offline" on this NG you should find those instructions.

Having said that, if you determine your local copy is more current and you want that to replace the server version just delete the server copy of the plan (through the PWA admin pages) and import the .mpp file back into the server with the same name as the plan had originally. This has the unfortunate side effect of creating an entirely new plan and Sharepoint site if you're configured to automatically create sites on project creation. This will also cause you to lose any actuals recorded so far against the original plan.

Otherwise, bite the bullet to update the server copy and remember to take the plan offline if you want to work with it locally in the future.
