Update for Error Code 1100009?

I have been having all kinds of problems opening publisher files with
Pubisher 2007 SP2. I have been searching forums for ways to solve the
problem, but have come up empty handed. Someone from the Microsoft Publisher
Team posting under the username LL3 promised there would be an update today,
June 30th, to solve this problem. Is anyone aware of a planned download or
been able to download this supposed update?

We know what you know - an update is expected today. Personally, I'm not
holding my breath.

Microsoft's response to this defect has been very disappointing ...
- no official postings via the Knowledge Base
- a very long time before getting anything unofficially from LL3 that a bug
fix would be released on June 30
- no release on June 30

This leads me to have the impression that Microsoft does not really care
about the impact this defect is having on its customers and that Microsoft
clearly prioritizes what products get first-class, business-class, coach or
under the bus support.

I am very disappointed in Microsoft's behavior. I have lots of stock in
Microsoft and as an owner I am embarrassed in the organization's lack of
caring.

Ed Bennett has posted the following in another area here (Publisher 2007 SP2
File-opening issue - HOTFIX ...). The hotfix works for me. Finally, after
months of grief. If Microsoft is this slow and unresponsive with other
products ... say hello to the end of their success.

The long-awaited hotfix has FINALLY been released. Apparently the team
has tested it on all the files they received and all open just fine.

Okay, after about three tries I was able to download the hotfix, but when I
tried to unzip the file I got an "Error 40" message. What do I do about that?

I also ran into the error code 40 "Unable to unzip" problem when trying to
open the downloaded "Publisher unable to open" (1100009 error) hotfix. I
copied my problem PUB file onto a memory stick and moved it to my older
laptop which is running XP and Publisher 2003. It opened with only some minor
font substitutions. I saved it again with a different file name and tried to
open the renamed Pub file on the Vista/Publisher 2007 system but ran into the
same 1100009 error problem. It looks like I'll have to finish my 36 page Pub
booklet on the laptop using Publisher 2003 as I can't seem to get anywhere
with Microsoft support except we'll give you your computer manufacturer's
phone number if you don't want to purchase our software support service at a
price they won't reveal until you agree. My next computer operating system
and software will be from Apple regardless of the price and performance
differences.

Error Code 1100009 & Error 40 message

As a last resort, I went back to the Hotfix download link location and
downloaded the file again to my DOWNLOAD file folder instead of the default
C: drive prompt and was able to open the Hotfix without the unsuccessful
unzip Error Code 40 occurring. Installing the Hotfix requires a system reboot
so be sure any files you have open are saved and closed before executing the
installation. And, yes the Hotfix solved my error code 1100009 problem.

I went back to hotfix and downloaded the zip file to my C: drive and nothing
works!!!!

All I get is a message indicating the following:

"The update is already installed on this system"

Now what, where is the fix. Are there file missing that I need to open and
run? The information from Microsoft is poor for us non computer technical
people.

Any suggestions

Taylor,
Here's what I would try next. See if you can remove the update that was
installed. If your unable to find the hotfix that was installed, you'll have
to ask someone who is better able to assist you. My thinking is that you
should not download the hotfix to C: drive and somehow you have to get the
hotfix download into your DOWNLOAD folder before you can be successful and as
a long shot try that and see if you still get the same error message.
